Guanethidine treatment or adrenal medullectomy significantly inhibited the elevation in blood pressure induced by Clostridium perfringens beta toxin, and the combination of the two drastically reduced the pressure rise, to less than 19% of that in control rats. When rats were pretreated with tetrodotoxin or hexamethonium, the toxin-evoked rise was significantly inhibited. Elevation in blood pressure induced by the toxin in spinal rats tended to be less than that in control rats. When investigated by a microscopical technique, arteriolar constriction in the mesenteric vasculature was observed after the blood pressure elevation induced by the toxin reached a maximum. Blood flow in the skin decreased with an increase in blood pressure following intravenous injection of the toxin. It is concluded that beta toxin acts on the autonomic nervous system and produces arterial constriction.  相似文献

A simple method for the separation and identification of Bacteroides fragilis from other Bacteroides species through the use of oxgall-impregnated filter paper disks is described. As in the antibiotic sensitivity test, filter paper disks containing defined amounts of bile salt were placed on a lawn of bacterial cells on Gifu anaerobic medium agar plates. Bile-resistant bacteria were identified as strains of Bacteroides fragilis after incubation in anaerobic jars containing hydrogen and carbon dioxide generators at 35 C for 24 hr. The optimum concentration of bile salt, yielding results very similar to those of the conventional tube method, was determined to be 25 mg per disk, empirically. Since this method is easy to perform, time saving, economical and gives clear results, it may be readily used as a daily routine test in the clinical microbiology laboratory.  相似文献

Chemiluminescence generated with the reaction of bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)oxalate and hydrogen peroxide was applied to a detection system for high-performance liquid chromatography to determine fluorescamine-labeled catecholamines. The sensitivity of the chemiluminescence detection system with 25 fmol of detection limit was approximately 20 times higher than that of a conventional fluorescence detection system. Norepinephrine and dopamine in human urine were determined by the use of the new high-performance liquid chromatography detection system with the coefficient of variation of less than 4.0%. Good correlations (r = 0.998 for norepinephrine and r = 0.999 for dopamine) were obtained between the values by the present method and the conventional method.  相似文献

“Discharge of treated wastewater and sewage sludge landfilling” are the most common practice, which poses threats to the local environment. In this work we first constructed a general sewage treatment ecosystem (STE) which integrated the three systems. Emergy synthesis, with several improved emergy-based indicators which considered the waste input contribution and impacts of emissions, was applied to evaluate two alternative scenarios (scenario 1: sewage treatment system + treated water discharge + sludge landfilling; scenario 2: sewage treatment subsystem + reclaimed water reuse subsystem + aerobic compost production subsystem) for Mingjingtan sewage treatment plant in Wanzhou City of Chongqing in China. Results point out the environmental pressure of scenario 2 is much smaller than scenario 1 although its economic performance is somewhat poorer than scenario 1, and finally the sustainability of scenario 2 is still much better than scenario 1. Therefore, the treated water and sewage sludge reuse can further improve the environmental benefit of the sewage treatment process; however, the STE should be optimized in order to enhance its economic benefit. The proposed methods can help policy-makers make decisions and guide designers and operators to improve the comprehensive performance of sewage treatment processes. In addition, this paper also briefly discusses wastewater integrated management strategy.  相似文献

The spectral fusion by Raman spectroscopy and Fourier infrared spectroscopy combined with pattern recognition algorithms is utilized to diagnose thyroid dysfunction serum, and finds the spectral segment with the highest sensitivity to further advance diagnosis speed. Compared with the single infrared spectroscopy or Raman spectroscopy, the proposal can improve the detection accuracy, and can obtain more spectral features, indicating greater differences between thyroid dysfunction and normal serum samples. For discriminating different samples, principal component analysis (PCA) was first used for feature extraction to reduce the dimension of high‐dimension spectral data and spectral fusion. Then, support vector machine (SVM), back propagation neural network, extreme learning machine and learning vector quantization algorithms were employed to establish the discriminant diagnostic models. The accuracy of spectral fusion of the best analytical model PCA‐SVM, single Raman spectral accuracy and single infrared spectral accuracy is 83.48%, 78.26% and 80%, respectively. The accuracy of spectral fusion is higher than the accuracy of single spectrum in five classifiers. And the diagnostic accuracy of spectral fusion in the range of 2000 to 2500 cm?1 is 81.74%, which greatly improves the sample measure speed and data analysis speed than analysis of full spectra. The results from our study demonstrate that the serum spectral fusion technique combined with multivariate statistical methods have great potential for the screening of thyroid dysfunction.  相似文献

We model the vague-to-crisp dynamics of forming percepts in the brain by combining two methodologies: dynamic logic (DL) and operant learning process. Forming percepts upon the presentation of visual inputs is likened to model selection based on sampled evidence. Our framework utilizes the DL in selecting the correct “percept” among competing ones, but uses an intrinsic reward mechanism to allow stochastic online update in lieu of performing the optimization step of the DL framework. We discuss the connection of our framework with cognitive processing and the intentional neurodynamic cycle.  相似文献

Toxin–antitoxin (TA) systems are small genetic elements that typically encode a stable toxin and its labile antitoxin. These cognate pairs are abundant in prokaryotes and have been shown to regulate various cellular functions. Vibrio cholerae, a human pathogen that is the causative agent of cholera, harbors at least thirteen TA loci. While functional HigBA, ParDE have been shown to stabilize plasmids and Phd/Doc to mediate cell death in V. cholerae, the function of seven RelBE-family TA systems is not understood. In this study we investigated the function of the RelBE TA systems in V. cholerae physiology and found that six of the seven relBE loci encoded functional toxins in E. coli. Deletion analyses of each relBE locus indicate that RelBE systems are involved in biofilm formation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) resistance. Interestingly, all seven relBE loci are induced under the standard virulence induction conditions and two of the relBE mutants displayed a colonization defect, which was not due to an effect on virulence gene expression. Although further studies are needed to characterize the mechanism of action, our study reveals that RelBE systems are important for V. cholerae physiology.  相似文献
